Book on Javascript?
03.08.10Remember the other day when I said I was going to check out a book on Javascript? Well I made that happen and I’m already halfway through the first chapter. It may only be because I’m pretty experienced with HTML/XHTML and I know a little bit of PHP from coding these Wordpress theme’s from scratch. Or it may be the fact that I’m only on the first chapter. Who knows? I discovered how to type text using script and to give little alerts! Click Here!
And the thing about it is, that little alert I made took me about 20 minutes to figure out. Okay not really 20 minutes but it was longer than it should have taken. I guess I’ll have to do some more reading before I’ll be able to implement it into the site. I have big plans you know and doing research and practice is the best way to do it.
If you’re interested in Web Design or programming, I suggest you do tutorials and maybe subscribe to some Web Design feeds so you can be updated constantly on what’s new in the world of web design. I use Google Reader which is a great resource to organize your subscribed feeds (and it also has this cool feature where it recommends feeds based on the ones you’ve already subscribed to). Some great sites I’ve found are Web Designer Wall, Nettuts+ and CSS Beauty. You should check them all out when you get the opportunity.
Comment Question: Are you subscribed (or do you regularly check) to any Web Design sites?
Ways to Go
03.07.10I’m sure that a lot of people who own and operate their own site want to be or have at least thought about taking that step and being more professional. I have, each and every one of the 25 times I reopen this blog. This time I’m going to try a bit harder. Subscribing to different web design blogs has helped me tremendously over the past few days in getting this site together. I’ll admit that I still have a ways to go.
Being in school for web design doesn’t hurt either. The class I’m currently in, Fundamentals of Interactive Media (which is essentially short for Introduction to web design), hasn’t taught me much that I didn’t know, but next semester/quarter I feel like I’m going to be growing as a designer since I’ll be enrolled in two web design courses. One of which is a 6 hour class.
What I can’t seem to figure out though is Javascript. I think I’ll do some tutorials online and read/check out some books in my school’s library when I have time. I just don’t know where I would want to start, and the syntax seems very complex and not friendly… Eesh. I had better do something though because we’re going to be starting Flash soon and I wouldn’t want to start failing now, eh?
Comment Question: Do you know any Javascript? If so, what can you do?
600 Kanji Later
03.06.10The Japanese culture has been a part of my life for as long as I remember. Whether it was Speed Racer and Power Rangers when I was 4 or Dragonball Z and Sailor Moon when I was 11, 12, I can’t remember a time where I wasn’t interested in the Japanese Culture (more specifically anime and manga). Now that I’ve reached the end of my teenage years, I’ve realized that there’s so much more to the culture and it fascinates me.
From the food to the religion and customs, I can’t seem to wrap my head around it all. The language is what has my heart (and my time), however. I’ve been trying to dip my feet in it since I was 16, but sometime around last summer (June 2009) was when I really took that step and dove in. Now, 600 kanji later, I’m still going forward. I hope that I can visit, maybe even live there, once or twice during my lifetime.
The religion of Japan is pretty fascinating as well. It’s called Shinto, and within it there are no absolutes. There is no clear cut as to what is right and what is wrong, and no human is perfect. Shinto is a pretty optimistic faith, as humans are thought to be essentially good, and evil is believed to be caused by evil spirits. You should give it a bit of research in your spare time. It’s captivating. And if not, at least head over to flickr and give their shrines a look; they’re beautiful.
My Medicine
03.05.10Well well well, look who’s back to the world wide blog-web? Yea I know I’ve made this introductory post a billion and one times, but I’m ever changing and I think that reflects well in my blogs and websites. I’m actually going to be staying this time though, not doing anything that everyone else is doing: Tutorials, Graphics, etc. I might end up doing reviews later on, but I’m not too sure with school and all down my back.
Sooner or later down the road, I’ll have my portfolio site up. It’s mainly for the projects I complete for school and maybe even some I work on on my personal time. I want it to be excellent and very professional so I’ll most likely ask my professor for help with it. I’m excited.
Another thing I’m really looking forward to is my online magazine which should be ‘hitting shelves’ sometime in March 2010. I have a few writers lined up to help me out, but I could always use more help. Let me know if you’re interested. You can drop me an e-mail or comment this blog. The main focus is music and the music industry, but if you have some ideas, I’ll be more than open for suggestions.
